Magic the Gathering: Foundations Beginner Box

The perfect starting point for new Magic players

Magic: The Gathering Foundations Beginner Box from Wizards of the Coast is the official introductory product for anyone who wants to learn to play Magic: The Gathering from the ground up. This sealed Beginner Box is developed specifically for new players and is part of the Foundations series, which focuses on making the basic rules and mechanics easy to understand. With the Foundations Beginner Box you get everything you need to take the first confident steps into the Magic universe—whether you have never tried the game before or just want a solid refresher.

What does the Foundations Beginner Box include?

The box is packed with content that makes it easy to get started with Magic. You receive:

• 10 themed Jumpstart decks (20 cards each, 200 cards total) — all cards are from Foundations (FDN)
• 2 reference cards for quick lookup
• 1 reference guide booklet with rules overview and tips
• 2 “How to Play” guides for step-by-step learning
• 2 game board playmats so both players have their own play area
• 2 Spindown life counters to keep track of life totals

The first two decks, Cats and Vampires, are set up to function as a tutorial where you and your opponent can learn basic elements such as mana, combat, and spellcasting. These decks should not be shuffled together in the first game but used as an introduction to Magic's flow and rules.

How to learn Magic with Foundations

The Foundations Beginner Box is designed to make the learning process as intuitive as possible. With the included guides and reference cards you get a structured walkthrough of the game's core principles. You start by playing Cats versus Vampires, with each player using their own deck and playmat. Along the way the material guides you through everything from card types and turn structure to how to use mana and cast your first spells.

Once you've got the first games under your belt, you can explore the other Jumpstart decks, which are all prebuilt and ready to be shuffled and played straight from the box. This makes it easy to vary the experience and try new strategies.

Why choose an official beginner box

All contents are carefully selected for beginners, and you get both play accessories and guidance in one package. That makes the box ideal as a gift or for anyone who wants a secure, manageable start to their Magic journey.
