Pokémon TCG, Mega Gengar ex (Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes #269)

Mega Gengar ex #269 – Ascended Heroes: Card details

Mega Gengar ex 269/217 from Ascended Heroes stands out as one of the most exclusive Mega Attack Rare cards in the modern era of Pokémon TCG. This English-language card is part of the Mega Evolution—Ascended Heroes set and presents Mega Gengar in its powerful Mega Evolution ex form. With artwork by Taiga Kasai and a unique card number outside the set’s main sequence, the card is both a sought-after collector’s item and a strategic choice for Darkness-type decks.

Uniqueness and collector potential

Mega Gengar ex #269 is one of only seven Mega Attack Rare cards in the Ascended Heroes set and is clearly distinct from both #125 and the Special Illustration Rare version. The card is not a promo, not a reverse-holo and not a Special Illustration Rare, but a standalone Mega Attack Rare printing with a holofoil finish. For collectors it offers:

• Rarity: Mega Attack Rare (holofoil, raw card)
• Illustrator: Taiga Kasai
• Card number: 269/217 – outside the set's normal sequence
• Iconic Pokémon: Gengar in Mega Evolution form

This makes the card ideal for those looking to expand their Mega Evolution collection or seeking unique Darkness-type Pokémon ex cards for their Pokémon cards binder.

Gameplay mechanics and strategy

Mega Gengar ex 269/217 combines high HP, a powerful attack and a unique ability that can shift the dynamics in Darkness decks:

HP: 350

Type: Darkness

Evolution: Evolves from Haunter

Ability: Shadowy Concealment – The opponent takes one fewer Prize card if one of your Darkness Pokémon is Knocked Out by a Pokémon ex (effect cannot be stacked)

Attack: Void Gale – 230 damage and move one Energy from Mega Gengar ex to a Benched Pokémon

Mega Evolution ex rule: When this Pokémon is Knocked Out, the opponent takes three Prize cards

Shadowy Concealment can provide a strategic edge in certain matches, while Void Gale delivers solid damage and energy flexibility. However, it is important to balance these advantages with the risk of the Mega Evolution ex rule.
