Universes Beyond: Star Trek meets Magic
Magic The Gathering Star Trek Commander Decks mark a unique crossover between two iconic universes: Magic: The Gathering and Star Trek. As part of the Universes Beyond series from Wizards of the Coast, this product line brings four preconstructed Commander decks with a Star Trek theme into Magic’s popular multiplayer format. Released under set code TRC in 2026, these decks are designed for both collectors and dedicated Commander players who want to explore new mechanics and characters in a familiar format.
Contents and format of the Commander decks
Each Star Trek Commander deck is ready to play straight out of the box with 100 cards. Each deck contains:
- 100 Magic cards (including both new and reprinted cards)
- 33 brand-new Star Trek Commander cards unique to the TRC release
- 10 double-sided tokens
- 1 deck box (for 100 sleeved cards)
- 1 strategy guide
- 1 reference card
Decks are built for the Commander format (EDH) and are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. Each deck ships with all necessary accessories so you can go straight to the table.
Deck identities and strategic themes
The Universes Beyond Star Trek Commander series consists of four different precon decks, each with its own color combination, strategy, and iconic Star Trek character at the helm:
Federation Fleet (Jeskai – blue/red/white): Led by Jean-Luc Picard, focusing on card draw and starship synergy.
Landing Party (Bant – green/white/blue): Spock as the face commander, centered on land-matter themes and control over various lands.
Klingon Fury (Mardu – red/white/black): Worf at the front, aggressive Warrior-type and broad battlefield play.
We Are the Borg (Esper – white/blue/black): Borg Queen commands assimilation and collective synergy with the new Assimilate mechanic.
Each Commander precon introduces new mechanics such as Assimilate, Dilemma, Federation, and Station, which bring Star Trek’s themes and strategies into the Magic universe.
Collector and player relevance
Magic The Gathering Star Trek Commander Decks are created for both collectors and players who want to experience the Star Trek universe through Magic’s Commander format.
